UPDATE für die Technikbildung
Innovatives europäisches Forschungsprojekt startet mit 16 Partnern in elf Ländern. Das Forschungsprojekt UPDATE tritt an, um die Technikbildung in Europa zu verbessern. In Zukunft sollen durch UPDATE nachahmenswerte Praxisbeispiele sowie neue Lehr- und Lernmaterialien zur Verfügung gestellt werden, die das Technikinteresse von Kindern und Jugendlichen - insbesondere Mädchen - fördern.
UPDATE (Understanding and Providing a Developmental Approach to Technology Education) setzt als innovativer Ansatz den Schwerpunkt auch in den frühen Bildungsphasen und beginnt bei Kindergarten und Grundschule. Häufig werden hier bereits Einstellungen zur Technik geformt, die später wirksam bleiben. Vor diesem Hintergrund kann nicht früh genug damit begonnen werden, das Interesse für Technik zu wecken.
Die Zielsetzung des Forschungsprojekts berücksichtigt die folgenden drei wichtigen Aspekte:
1) Es soll untersucht werden, warum insbesondere Mädchen beim Durchlaufen der verschiedenen Stufen des Bildungssystems aus der Technikbildung herausfallen.
2) Um das Image von Technik und technischen Karrieren für Mädchen und Jungen zu verbessern, sollen neue Wege und Methoden entwickelt werden.
3) Insbesondere Mädchen und junge Frauen sollen angeregt werden, Technik und Ingenieurwesen als Karriereoption zu nutzen und moderne Technologien aktiv anzuwenden.
Das europäische Projektkonsortium besteht aus Mitgliedern folgender Länder: Finnland, Deutschland, Großbritannien, Frankreich, Italien, Spanien, Griechenland, Österreich, Slovakei, Estland und Rumänien.
Das Forschungsprojekt UPDATE wird in den nächsten drei Jahren von der Europäischen Kommission mit 922.300 ? gefördert. Das Projekt ist Teil des 6. Forschungsrahmenprogramms der Europäischen Gemeinschaft.

Innovative European Research Project starts with 16 Partners in eleven Countries
The research programme UPDATE wants to improve science and technology teaching in Europe. In future it will provide best practises and new learning material to attract more young people, especially girls, to technology.
UPDATE stands for "Understanding and Providing a Developmental Approach to Technology Education". The innovative aspect of UPDATE is that the approach includes a strong focus on early childhood and primary education, phases in which the attitudes are often formed. From this understanding, it might be too late to start raising interest only at secondary or later stages.
The UPDATE project's aim is threefold:
1) to examine why girls drop out from technology education at different stages of their education
2) to create new ways and educational methods to make the image of technology and technological careers more attractive for both girls and boys
3) to promote, encourage and mobilise especially girls and young women for engineering and technology both as a career, and as active users of modern technology
The multinational European project consortium of UPDATE consists of members from Finland, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Austria, Slovakia, Estonia and Romania.
The research project UPDATE is funded by the European Commision with ? 922,300 for the next three years. The project will be part of the Sixth Framework Programme of the EC.
